just when I thought this week was going to be dry and familiar Peter pops in a gem at the end of todays reading. In referring to Paul as a dear brother he demonstrates perfect Christian forgiveness for the man who persecuted the early church which he was majorly involved in. He also fully endorses Pauls writings showig solidarity with him. I can't think of many NT letters that reference other writers and its nice to see that they were aware of each other and what they taught.
I also love the line 'his letters conatin some things that are hard to understand' revealing something of the all heart less theological Peter of the gospels but also encouraging us that even the first century Christian had trouble with Romans!:)
Its nice to have a momentary glimpse at Peter as a person relating to Paul in his own words.
I wondered whether the blog would cry up completely this week, but James to the rescue! And you are always well worth reading, James.
The 5th and final reading of the week is about a new world order, brought about by God, restoring people back to being in God's company and presence. They were there in Eden, went astray, fell short of the mark, chose their own way, and were justly removed from God's presence. At the same time, sin disrupted the relationship with God, each other, ourselves and creation itself. Everything was broken!
Here everything is made new, whole, perfect. A new heaven and new earth. Earth is not destroyed, done away with, but restored. We get to enjoy the future in perfect relationships and security, free from pain, death and sorrow.
It is an amazing thing, as we live on the edge of one of the world's great cities but one with so many darker sides to it, to consider the picture in Revelation of living in a 'city' full of God's glory, his peace, our joy and worship, living life to the full as it was intended. That is far more exciting than the ridiculous notions of heaven of floating in clouds, playing harps, or just doing not a lot. God has more in store than that for those who love, obey and follow him.
I meant that the blog might "dry" up not "cry" up. I'm not expecting the blog to get all emotional on us!
